The age distribution of males is distinct from females. The number of males in either classic or freestyle events increases sharply with age until around 50 (freestyle) to 56 (classic) then drops off. In contrast, the number of females in either event remains relatively stable during the same age spans then decreases. After age 70 there have been 10 or fewer females since 1999, and the same holds for males after age 80.
There have been some notable stalwarts age-wise. The following table highlights the oldest male and female Birkie skiers from 1999-2025. Note that the oldest recorded skiers skied in the 2025 event. For all the 81 year-old females and 87 year-old men out there, is 2026 your year?
