Skiers younger than 30 made up only 8% of the classic race for the period 1999-2008, but this increased to 16% for the period 2009-2016. The new classic trail allows faster times for the classic race, and a large proportion of the younger skiers have only skied on the new trail. Therefore, when looking at the average performance of age groups over all 16 years, the younger age groups appear to be relatively faster than they actually are.
